MILEPOST
North Carolina Highway 12 is a 148 mile-long state highway linking the peninsulas and islands of the northern Outer Banks. Along this historic highway, mileposts mark the various landmarks and sights that make the Outer Banks so special. This ongoing project is my attempt to tell the story of life on the coast — the towns, the people, the sights, and the sounds. Each fall, the towns shut down for winter, only to reopen in late march. Much of this work was created in the dead of winter, long before tourists return.
